WHY WE STARTED

This is why
we began

A story about cleaning, health, the environment and making in China.

Twiggy laundry soap with botanical ingredients
“We did not want to make just another cleaning product. We wanted to create a more honest, longer-term choice.”

Our founder Joey Zhengyi Tian—known in nature circles as Panda—previously worked for a leading Chinese consumer-goods company and has long practised sustainable living. He co-founded Plant Technology Alliance (pta), a community for sustainable transition, and has organised delegations to United Nations climate and environment conferences.

An experience overseas led him to a simple realisation: many health- and environment-conscious cleaning products sold globally were already made in China, yet similarly focused, transparent and environmentally considered choices were still difficult to find in the Chinese market.

Our name, “吐枝”—a branch putting out new shoots—came from the new leaves our founder saw outside his window. We do not want to deny life’s stains or hide the cost of cleaning. We want each new beginning to bring us a little closer to nature.
