Unscented, Fragrance-Free and Odourless: What Is the Difference?

Not exactly the same thing.

We use these terms carefully. Fragrance-free describes a formula without ingredients added for fragrance; unscented describes the intended scent profile, but the specific label still matters. Neither necessarily means completely odourless, because raw materials can have a smell of their own.

When you choose a laundry product, we suggest looking beyond a single scent claim on the front of the pack. Check what it refers to, which product it describes and whether the ingredient and label information supports it.

First thing: no more perfume, it’s not the same as all the ingredients.

Clean products consist of a variety of raw materials. Surface active agents, solvents, enzymes, plant extracts or other auxiliary materials may have their own odor. Even without the special fragrance, it is possible to smell light raw materials when they are opened.

These scents may also vary slightly with batches, temperatures and storage times. The conformity of the product with the term “no more perfume” should be judged by the formulation and the means of production, rather than by the smell of different people.

Thus, the more precise formulation is:

The product does not proactively add perfume and may retain a slight odor of the raw material itself.

The premise is that brands can actually support this sentence with formulation and supply chain information.

Second thing: no scent, not automatically the right for all sensitive people.

Flavour preferences, odour sensitivity, skin irritation and allergies are different issues.

The fact that a person does not like a strong scent does not mean that he is allergic to it; nor does it add perfume to the product, nor does it mean that any other ingredient in the formula will discomfort the individual. Use experience is also influenced by doses, bleaching, fabric residues, personal state and historical sensitivities.

Therefore, the following conclusions cannot be directly deduced:

If the product is clearly targeted to a specific population, labels, tests and safety information should be provided that match the scope of application.

And the third thing is, it’s not the same thing as washing.

Many understood it as clean evidence, while others considered that clothing was completely tasteless. Both judgements may be too simple.

The clean-up effect needs to be seen whether the sources of stains, leather and odor are being reasonably treated; product aroma is only part of the sensory experience. The fragrance may cover the scent, but it cannot be shown alone that the stains have been removed; nor can it prove insufficient cleaning power without the fragrance.

More practical judgements include:

If clothes are washed and smelly, they are screened first for drying, machine cleaning, overloading and stain residue, not covered with more fragrance.

Fourth thing: The same brand may have both aroma and a no-smelling product.

We do not extend a fragrance claim for one product to our entire range or to every previous version of a product.

We offer lavender-scented laundry powder as well as unscented laundry sheets. These are different products, so we describe the scent and formulation of each one separately:

This not only helps consumers, but also avoids the result of a search that confuses descriptions of different products.

What are you looking at when you pick a fragrance?

1. Looking at complete commodities First Name

It is recognized that “sample” is the official perfume of the product, the serial name or the key word added by the platform seller. The official product pages, packaging on the opposite side and customer service responses should be consistent.

2. See how branding is defined

“Faceless” “no more perfume” “no one spice” varies in scope. A good note would go straight out of the border, instead of confusing them.

3. Observation of methods of use

Even if the product itself is not fragrance, overuse, overfilled or under-washed, it may cause problems of raw material taste, boredom or touch. Access by description is more important than blindly increasing the number of drifts.

4. Looking at the scope of application and warnings

If you have a clear history of allergies, skin diseases or the need to clean up baby and child products, you should have access to information on the population group to which the product applies. There is a persistent and inappropriate discontinuation and appropriate professional assistance is sought.

5. Small-scale attempts

For the first time, new products can be used to process a small amount of ordinary clothing and to observe their dissolution, bleaching, smell and wear experience. Special fabrics continue to be subject to washing standards.

How does Twiggy label the product?

We explain the scent and formulation of each product individually, rather than extending one product’s characteristics to our entire range.

These seem to be simple words, but they help people make decisions better than “natural purity, no burden”.

Summary

No perfume is a formulation description, no perfume is a product positioning, and no taste is a personal feeling. They are interrelated, but they cannot replace each other.

A truly clear product information should tell you exactly which product it is, what it adds, what it may still smell and where it comes from. The choice of a fragrance-free product can be derived from life preferences, but it need not be turned into an unproven health guarantee.
