TWIGGY

Our Conference Gift Says “No!” to Greenwashing

Twiggy at international conferences · The gift we plan to bring

The exhibit we plan to take to the UN biodiversity and climate conferences is ready.

Twiggy's conference gift with a kraft-paper band reading Laundry, yes. Greenwashing, No!

For this product, we chose kraft paper and sugarcane fibre for the packaging. A kraft-paper band wraps around the white box, with our message printed on it:

Laundry, yes. Greenwashing, No!

Yes to washing clothes. No to greenwashing.

We make laundry products, so it is a small joke about what we do. But we mean the second half.

At these international summits on biodiversity and climate, the message we want to share is simple:

We hope businesses will do more real work,
and less greenwashing.

Use one less unnecessary layer of packaging. Cut out a source of waste in production. Explain the evidence behind an environmental claim. These steps may not make for a striking poster, but they are worth spending time on.

We also hope businesses will be more specific when they talk about the environment. What has been reduced? Compared with what? What problems remain? If something is still being tried, say so. And a small step forward need not be presented as saving the planet.

Doing the work takes time. We want to hear about progress, and about difficulties too. Being open about what has not yet been achieved is better than covering it up with a few green buzzwords.

That includes us at Twiggy.

Printing a big No! on a package is easy. The hard part comes later: remembering those words when we choose materials, make products and write copy.

We will take this exhibit to the international conferences.

When we return,
we will still have to stand by those words.
