We do not recommend adding a full dose of powder and a full dose of liquid detergent to the same wash, or inventing a half-and-half mix. Choose one suitable main-wash detergent and follow its dose. Local laundry-soap pretreatment can be a separate step when the fabric and product directions permit it.
Does using two detergents mean better cleaning?
Combining two complete doses increases the amount added; it does not establish a better cleaning result. Whirlpool’s excessive-suds guidance explains that too much or an unsuitable detergent can create excess foam and affect operation in the washers it covers. Check your own model’s requirements, including HE compatibility where specified.
Half a scoop and half a cap are not equivalent measures. Products differ in concentration, units and dose for a given load. Unless the manufacturers supply an appropriate combination method, use one main-wash product rather than making up a ratio.
Match the next step to the problem
- You want a stronger scent: choose a fragrance you prefer without stacking full detergent doses. Scent strength is not a measure of cleanliness.
- A collar or cuff has a local stain: consider compatible laundry-soap pretreatment before the main wash.
- A whole load has marks or smells: check our residue guide or odour checklist. A second detergent will not correct an overloaded drum or a dispensing fault.
How is local pretreatment different?
Treat the area that needs attention rather than coating the whole garment. Follow the soap and fabric directions for contact time, rinsing and the next washing step. Do not pour a separate basin of pretreatment solution into the main wash as an additional detergent dose.

What if automatic dosing is already on?
Check before manually adding powder. For a manual wash, disable or bypass automatic dosing as the model instructs, and use a powder-compatible placement. A liquid-only reservoir is not suitable for dry powder or a homemade powder solution. See our powder dosing guide.
If both products have already been added, do not add another cleaner to counteract them. Follow the washer’s directions for excess suds or dosing errors. When permitted, check whether the clothes need further rinsing. Leakage, abnormal drainage or an error code needs the appliance’s troubleshooting procedure, not repeated experiments with detergent.
Do you need liquid as well as Twiggy powder?
For a suitable everyday main wash, another complete dose of liquid is not a necessary partner for our powder. Match the product to your garment and machine. Our supplied level scoop holds approximately 10–15 g: that is a weight reference, not a dose for every load or a conversion into caps of liquid.
